Lobby Lounge – Simply Strawberries Afternoon Tea [MEDIA INVITE]

Calling strawberries lovers, Lobby Lounge at Conrad Centennial Singapore is showcasing simply / everything strawberries afternoon tea. Executive Chef Mandar Mandav and his team use strawberries from Japan, South Korea, USA and Australia to curate these strawberries treats.

The afternoon tea starts with Strawberry Mocktails. It is refreshing and packs with strawberries, a sign of what is to come in the afternoon tea.

Strawberry Mocktails
Soon after, the staff deliver Lobby Lounge Signature Multi-Tiered Afternoon Tea tray to our table. The crew gave a short explanation on each item and suggested that we start from the lowest tier and work our way up.

We commence with Homemade Strawberry Scone with Homemade Strawberry Jam and Clotted Cream. The warm scones release a sweet strawberry aroma. It is slightly crusted externally, while the interior remains soft and crumbly. The strawberry jam is solid, yet not overly sweet and goes well with the clotted cream.

Premium Japanese Strawberry with Valrhona Chocolate Dip (One serving only). The Japanese strawberries are big, juicy and sweet. Although the Japanese strawberries are delicious to eat on their own, the chocolate sauce seems to enrich the taste further. Yumz!.

The savoury part of the afternoon tea consists of Peanut Butter and Jelly with Cream Cheese and Avruga Caviar; Balsamic Roasted Strawberry Pincho; Mango Strawberry Tartlets; and Strawberry Tomato Mozzarella on Toast.

LD and I like the Peanut Butter and Jelly the most. The bread is soft and moist, while the peanut butter and jelly blend well together. The surprise come from the Cream Cheese and Avruga Caviar, which made this mini sandwich irresistible.

Mango Strawberry Tartlet
My second pick is Strawberry Tomato Mozzarella on Toast. It is delicately assembled and the creamy mozzarella cheese bodes well with the strawberry and balsamic vinegar. I might borrow this idea and make a big bowl of salad from the same ingredients next time we have a gathering.

The sweet part of the afternoon tea consists of Classic Strawberry Shortcake; Almond Strawberry Mini Tartlet, Mascarpone Strawberry Swiss Roll; and Earl Grey and Strawberry Mousse. LD personal pick is the Mascarpone Strawberry Swiss Roll. The strawberry flavoured Swiss roll is soft, moist and topped with a plump and juicy strawberry.

[From Top, Clockwise] Classic Strawberry Shortcake; Mascarpone Strawberry Swiss Roll; Almond Strawberry Mini Tartlet & Earl Grey and Strawberry Mousse.
My pick is Classic Strawberry Shortcake. The sponge cake is light, soft and moist carries the diced strawberries and cream perfectly. #Strawberrygasm

Dragonwell Zheijiang Ronnefeldt Tea
All these delicious treats are paired perfectly with the wide selection of unlimited Ronnefeldt Tea and Brazilian Coffee.

Brazilian Coffee - Long Black
Overall, it was indeed an impressive Strawberry Afternoon Tea experience. The title of “Simply” is an understatement to describe this Strawberry gastronomic experience. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this. Cheers!!

Honey Glazed Smoked Gammon Ham (Whole, Semi Bone-In). The ham has a nice smoky aroma, followed with a beautiful combination of sweet and salty in the meat. To balance the rich flavour of the ham, pineapple sauce is served together with the ham.

Braised Short Rib of Beef with Winter Mushroom. The meat has a nice marbling and just simply melts in your mouth. The braising sauce absorbs into meat nicely. This dish got our pick for the best dish this year.

On top of the Signature Log Cake, the culinary team also introduced the Ivory Valrhona Yule Log with Pandan Roulade, White Sesame Mousse and Azuki Red Bean. An interesting combination of Asian flavours, especially blending white chocolate with red bean.

2013 B'day Episode 2.5 - Lady M – Mille Crepe the Birthday Cake

Original Mille Crepe from Lady M

A month before my Birthday, Little Devil ('LD') asked me what type of cake do I want for my birthday. I replied “Mille Crepe”. I even forwarded to her the article of which shop I wanted to get the Mille Crepe from. Alas, things always don't go according to your plan, but who knows it might turn out for the best such as this case.

Jones The Grocer – Aussie Brunch at Dempsey

What is a perfect way to spend your Sunday morning? After all the buzz catching up with your chores on Saturday, Sunday morning is just a good time to sit back, relax and tuck in to a good brunch and cuppa.

Jones the Grocer is one of the more popular destinations to tuck in for a weekend brunch. It is a branch for popular Australia grocer / food emporium to provide natural and artisan ingredients from Australia and worldwide. The one that really catch our eyes, is the bread that freshly baked on the premises.

Freshly Baked Bread

We pop by on Sunday morning, just after the morning drizzle clears. As this is our first visit to Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey, we notice that they do not take reservation for brunch. Luckily, due to the rain, the crowd was not there yet thus the queue was quite short and we got our seats in 15 mins.

Sweets Selection that entice me while waiting

So what's good on the menu? Little Devil's (LD) decided on Jones Big Breakfast ($24), I had French Toast with Berries ($18), while our friend SH had Eggs Benedict ($20).

Jones Big Breakfast basically have everything you want in a big breakfast. Sourdough Bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, hash brown. For something more up class, they also have sautéed baby spinach. The bread is fragrant, nice and crispy providing a nice bedding for the eggs. The sausages, bacon are cooked perfectly. Good solid brunch.

Jones Big Breakfast

Since LD's decided on big breakfast and I know I will probably eat half of that, I decided on something light. Cinnamon French toast with mixed berries and vanilla crème fraiche. The bread is nicely coated with eggs, crispy and soft. The combination of mixed berries, icing sugar and vanilla crème fraiche is just so inviting to dig in into your breakkie.

French Toast with Berries

Eggs Benedict come with smoked ham, spinach & poached eggs on house baked English Muffin. Don't let the simple presentation of this dish fool you. To produce the a nice hollandaise sauce, you need to be very skilful in the kitchen. Slight miscalculation will turn the sauce into sour scramble eggs. The eggs poached to the right temperature, while exuding white vinegar aroma the yolk will ooze out when you cut through the egg. The sauce is smooth and creamy while the ham is slightly salty.

Eggs Benedict

Nothing better to complement a beautiful breakfast a great coffee. The coffee here is imported from Australia. It has a full body flavour, slightly bitter, but bode well for milk base coffee such as latte or cappuccino. Nice caffeine shot to start the day.

Barista at Work

Latte & Cappucino

Basically when you are dining in Jones the Grocer, you are dining in a grocery shop. Surrounded by artisan produce and wine sold by Jones the Gorcery. It is a open concept shop with a high ceiling. Certainly does not feel like you are dining in Singapore. The service staff here is very good and professional. Our order took around 15 minutes to come, while we took turns to check out the produce selling on the shelves.

Overall, if you are looking for a place to have a good breakkie, I would recommend Jones the Grocer. Delicious food complement with delicious coffee. G'Day Mate.!!
