Melt Café – Sunday Champagne Brunch [MEDIA INVITE]

Melt Cafe

Sunday Brunch is known as the ultimate buffet experience in Singapore dining scene. It is time where the restaurant will showcase menu curated from the best ingredients and the list are endless. Not forgetting, the bubbles also play an important part of the Sunday Brunch experience.

Seven reasons to book Sunday Champagne Brunch at Melt Café

Pan-Seared Foie Gras and Slow Roast Australian Aged Prime Rib of Beef. The first time I saw the thick cut of foie gras displayed at the station. When I approach, the chef asked, one or two Sir? I was so tempted to order two but decided against it.

The Foie Gras is pan-seared for a crisp exterior and velvety, creamy interior. Together with the slow roast aged prime rib, this is probably one of the best Sunday Roast I have experienced. This combo just made my day.

Whole Roasted Suckling Pig at The Barbeque Station. I spotted it at the beginning when I was taking some shots. The suckling pig going round and round in the rotisserie. On my next visit, they have some served and ready to eat. The flesh is tender and succulent, while the fats just melt in your mouth. The skin is thin and crispy, however, if you leave it a tad longer, it will even be better.

The Japanese Counter. The latest setting of Japanese counter offers extensive range of sashimi, displayed on a huge wooden basin. It features salmon, salmon belly, tuna, octopus and yellow tails. All the cuts are thick, fresh and it will tickle your Japanese taste buds. They have some sushi, sushi roll and Japanese curry for those who can’t skip this simple pleasure.

The Seafood. Boston Lobsters, Oysters (Canadian, Irish, Taylor Pacific), Alaskan King Crabs, Scallops, Fresh Prawns, Spanner Crab and Mussels. Enough said, no further introduction needed!!!

Snow Crab Terrine, Caviar and Garden Cress. I had this a few times and never get bored of it. The chunk of crab meats is delicate and sweet. The touch of caviar and adequate seasoning allow the pristine ingredients to shine. Yum Yum.

The Indian Food. The signature station in Melt Café. The naan, tandoori and curries will tantalise your appetite like none other. Today, they have Traditional Spiced Roasted Whole Spring Lamb. The WOW factor is definitely there, but it can do with more time on in the oven.

The desserts. The Melt Chocolate Cake is definitely there to give a perfect ending to your meal. This time around Apple Dill Chantilly Tart and Raspberry Chou Chou got my votes. The combination of apple and dill gave it a tangy unique taste that cleanses the palate. The multi-layered Raspberry Chou Chou did well to balance the rich proteins from the Sunday Brunch. For a trendier option, try their Liquid Nitrogen Freeze Amaretto Sabayon, Red Fruit Compote.

While the above are my picks, I have to admit I did not manage to try all the dishes. Safe to say, it just invites you to come back for more.

Celebrate CNY 2017 with Boruto [MEDIA INVITE]

Boruto

Boruto is a new concept Japanese modern kitchen plus Japanese Sake Bar. It is a sister restaurant of Tamashii Robataya, one of the few Robatayaki restaurant in Singapore. Unlike its sister restaurant, Boruto served Asian fusion, predominately using Japanese ingredients to go with their extensive list of Sake.

Boruto Japanese Sake Bar

The unit at Golden Castle Building that is occupied by Boruto, used to be a bank. The first floor is the Tapas Bar, complete with the view of its open kitchen. The second floor is the sake bar, mostly focus on drinks, a bit of bar bites and extensive display of sake in fridge and as well as their cold room Vault. Yup, they keep their sake in a vault complete with a security device, the vault was left by the previous tenant, so for the fun of it, they have reused the vault for their expensive bottles of sakes.

While waiting for all our group to arrive, we nibbled on Sake Kawa Senbei ($8.80). It is a crispy salmon skin tossed with sea salt & chili powder. Solid crispy salmon skin, delicately seasoned and a good bar food dish.

To celebrate the year of the Rooster, Boturo curated the Chinese New Year Japanese Truffle Infused Yu Sheng with Salmon & Yellowtail Sashimi ($68 for 3 to 5 pax). A beautifully plated Yu Sheng, drizzle with truffle infused oil plus golden pouch. The Yu Sheng is just delicate and refreshing, while the truffle infused oil accentuate the flavours of the salmon and yellow tail sashimi. A good start to our main meal.

A bigger portion for 6 to 10 pax is available for $98. There is also Salmon Skin Yu Sheng ($48 for small, $68 for large) and Japanese abalone Yu Sheng ($98 for small, $168 for large).

[CLOSED] Serenity – Spanish Style Roasted Suckling Pig

Serenity @ Vivocity

In the recent food tasting session, we (Chubby Botak Koala + other food bloggers) sampled a tapas size of Spanish Suckling Pig (Checkout the review here). As it was tapas size, it left you with a sensation of wanting more. So we decided to organise a suckling pig theme makan session.

Serenity - Table Setting

Serenity got our pick, due to their location and reputation. Thanks to Running Man for booking and putting a down payment for the whole pig, so we all can reap the benefit.

Cochinillo Asado -  Spanish style roasted suckling pig (whole)
with brown sauce and tomato jam
Au Jus from roasting

Cochinillo Asado ($338) Spanish style roasted suckling pig - whole. Good for 5 to 8 pax. Served with the au jus from the pig, brown sauce, tomato jam and potatoes. The suckling pig are roasted as whole and served as a whole. Like other traditional Spanish restaurant ritual, the suckling pig will be cut using saucer to show the crispiness of the skin and the tenderness of the meat. Normally, the saucer dispose by breaking it on the floor. In Serenity, the guest will be invited to break the plate in the bin with a stone in the middle. A nice ritual.
