REBEL – More Than A Sandwich [MEDIA INVITE]

Vegan H.A.L.T.  Sandwich

REBEL is a new sandwich shop concept that first opened its door in TripleOne Somerset on 4th May 2019. REBEL identify itself beyond a mere sandwich shop, instead, it is focused on a community and lifestyle.

REBEL Shop

REBEL is about being a culture that nurtures entrepreneurship, empowering employee as being part of the REBEL brand, taking ownership and its future. REBEL is Eco-Friendly and it works with like-minded partners such as QUORN – delicious meat-free leading brand producer; QOMUNE – passionate coffee partner; PACKADZ – environmentally friendly packaging; and ZAC MEAT – best halal meats supplier for the awesome sandwiches.

REBEL Gurl Logo

REBEL Sandwiches is inspired by the owner experience when he first bit into a Banh Mi in Vietnam. From then on, the seeds of REBEL were planted.

All Day Naked Sandwich

I tried two sandwiches at REBEL: All Day Naked ($6.90) and Vegan H.A.L.T. ($7.50). True to its name, All Day Naked consist of beef bacon, chicken ham and fried egg hold together with crispy REBEL bread. Unlike the Vietnamese baguette, the bread texture here is crisp externally, with a bit of density in the middle part of the bread. The bacon, ham and egg provided a solid meaty bite on the sandwich and will receive a nod of approval from meat lovers. Due to the texture of the bread, it does not leave a messy crumb after you finished your meal.

Vegan H.A.L.T. is a different experience altogether. Filled with Quorn Spicy Patty, Avocado Salsa (A), Lettuce (L), Tomato (T) .... H.A.L.T! with Mayo, Tangy Asian Slaw & Fresh Coriander. I get a double crunchiness from the bread and Quorn spicy patty, followed with the moist and creamy texture from the avocado and mayo. The tomato and salsa add the freshness to the sandwich. I feel the sandwich is very tasty and I did not miss the meat protein at all. I enjoy the Vegan H.A.L.T more than the All Day Naked. Yum Yum.

Other then the sandwiches, I tried REBEL soup of the day, Mushroom Soup and Garlic Bread. The soup is thick and loaded with chopped mushrooms. Tasted like a restaurant standard mushroom soup instead of the diluted version that come from the can. Meanwhile, the garlic bread is crispy and lightly seasoned with garlic.

Mushroom Soup and Garlic Bread

The Rebel Salad ($6) – SE Asian Style Salad. Lettuce, carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts, fresh mint, Thai basil, coriander, spring onion and chicken cha lua (+$2). A refreshing take on Vietnamese salad. It is fresh, crunchy, healthy and yummy. Something for those who are very health conscious and watching their weight.

The REBEL Salad with Chicken Cha Lua

For a unique drink, try their Iced Cascara Tea (from $5). It comes with 3 option of flavours: Lychee, Peach and Yuzu. Cascara is the dried skins of coffee cherries, however, instead of the bitter coffee taste, it has a fruity sweet taste like in a fruity tea. The iced cascara teas are sweetened and both the lychee and yuzu are refreshing.

The décor of REBEL shop is bold and eye-catching. The REBEL Gurl logo is very prominent, together with other REBEL creative animation, it makes the shop looks like a fun place to hang out. Another plus point is for the “Wall Plug” generation that needs to juice up their mobile phone, some of the seats have cables to charge your devices.

Overall, I enjoy the overall dining experience at REBEL. The sandwich, the soup, garlic bread and cascara tea are things that I will order again when I visit REBEL. Cheers!!

Truffle Sōmen Noodles with Scallop and Ikura

Fried Shrimp Sandwich with Wasabi Tartare

I will usually start my afternoon tea from the savoury offerings first. My pick from the savouries are the Unagi Kabayaki Open Face Sandwich, the unagi has a sweet, smooth, velvety and moist. Following that fatty and delicious Black Pepper Cod Teriyaki, and not forgetting the Japanese Braised Pork Belly.

Unagi Kabayaki Open Face Sandwich

Black Pepper Cod Teriyaki

The pork belly is well braised, firm yet it melts in your mouth. I like the apple sauce topping with tendrils leaf, as the acidity in the apple sauce together with bitter and nutty undertone balanced the richness in the dish.

Buta no Kakuni, Japanese Braised Pork Belly

The sweet treats consist of Japanese Sponge Cake, Black Sesame Tiramisu, Japanese Style Matcha “Swiss Roll”, Strawberry Eclairs, and Green Tea Panna Cotta.

Japanese Sponge Cake

Black Sesame Tiramisu

My pick for the sweet treats is Japanese Style Matcha “Swiss Roll”. It is creamy, soft and you get the matcha taste at the end. Following that is Strawberry Éclair which has a soft and delicate flavour and Green Tea Panna Cotta, where the combination of red bean and green tea is just so comforting.

[CLOSED] Roosevelt's Diner and Bar – New Brunch Menu [MEDIA INVITE]

Roosevelt's Diner and Bar

Roosevelt's Diner and Bar ('Roosevelt's') is a dining destination located behind the Dorsett Residence at H exit of Outram MRT. When you turn to face the diner, you will notice their eye catching logo of teddy bear smoking a cigar. This remind me of the movie TED, that featured the naughty R rated teddy bear.

Back to the food, Roosevelt's just revamped their brunch menu and we are here to give it a try. Currently brunch menu is available up to 6PM daily.

Roosevelt's - The Bar

We started with something light and healthy. Shiitake Sesame Salmon ($18). This salad bowl featured a healthy ingredients and super food. The plating is so attractive, made it difficult not to try it. The salmon was sous-vide, allowing it to retain the juice with moist and flaky texture. The tofu, mushroom, edamame and pomegranate contribute variety texture and flavour to the dish. While the sesame dressing bind all the ingredients and flavour together.

Café Melba – A Taste of Melbourne

Café Melba @ Goodman Arts Centre

The name Melba is inspired from the blend of Melbourne and Asia cuisine. Located in Goodman Arts Centre, Café Melba offer a unique dining experience. It is a family friendly cafe hidden in the tranquil garden of Goodman Arts Centre, with indoor and outdoor dining area plus plenty of space in the yard and designated children playing area for the little one to run around.

Time to EAT

The food on offer definitely reminds LD and I of the time we were back in Melbourne. Such as Crayfish Pasta ($27). This simple looking spaghetti are infused with crustacean broth. The pasta is al-dente, robust, and well complement the fresh crayfish. The rocket salad add a slight bitterness to the dish, however it is definitely a pasta dish that you don't want to miss.

Kuvo

Kuvo a lifestyle concept by The Connoisseur Concerto ('tcc') group. Tucked in the second floor or Orchard Shopping Centre, this previously unheard of establishment has been gaining positive reviews recently. Highlights of 2014

Hello 2015! Yes, what a better way to start the new year with a quick recap of the highlight of foodgasm session in 2014.

Sarnies - The Fry Up

For Breakfast to Brunch, we really need to mention Sarnies, Symmetry and Sunday Market. Sarnies Aussie Big Breakfast are so memorable, it really fills you for the whole day and give me the nostalgic feeling of my days in Melbourne. Symmetry provide us with a more classy version of cafe Brunch. More cutting edge plating while maintaining awesome flavours.

Symmetry - Hickory Corned Beef & Hash

Sunday Market is unique with their modern food with Thai flairs in their dishes. Their Bangkok Toast desserts and Thai Ice Milk Tea are just YUMMM!!.

The Bravery – No Signboard Cafe

The Bravery Cafe

The Bravery is a new cafe that treading a fine line between brave and suicidal. The owners are so confident of their products and service, they did not even put a signboard on the door, and let their presence spread through word of mouth and social media.

Communal Table with piniata

Located near the hardware shops across Jalan Besar Stadium along Horne Road, you can identify this shop by steel red chairs and sturdy tables which looks made the leftover of industrial steel shelf and thick plank of wood. The glass windows are covered with bright and attractive films such as red, blue and yellow. The interior inside are not much different, however the square communal table with  piñata as the centrepiece really represent the character of this place.

So Pho – So Good Halal Vietnamese Food

So Pho - NEX

In the past few years, more and more Vietnamese restaurants seems to open up in Singapore. Although the growth was not as exponential as the upper class Ramen invasion in SG, Vietnamese PHO follow the slow yet steady path to win the stomach of Singaporeans. Although it is no very obvious, to get a Halal Vietnamese food can be a challenge for our muslim friends, especially when pork feature prominently in Vietnamese cuisine. Fortunately, Katrina Holdings see the opportunity in the market and introduce So Pho.

The Table Setting
Little Devil has a bit of Vietnamese Food cravings when we were in NEX, so we decided on So Pho.

[CLOSED] Sunday Market – Probably the Best Cafe for 2014!!

I got to know about Sunday Market from Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow review when I was looking for a brunch place. Since our first visit, Little Devil and I went back there three times in the past two months and we just can't get enough of the place and it is so near our place.

The Fortune Cat

Located at Lim Tua Tow Road, this area can be consider one of the foodie cluster, especially those shop houses facing Upper Serangoon Road. Luckily Sunday Market is located in the next block, where it is easier to get car park and there is valet available during certain nights.
