Loysel's Toy is the first outpost (café) established by Papa Palhetta – one of the leading Third Wave Coffee Roaster (coffee artisanal) in Singapore. If you look at their website, the name Loysel's Toy is a way for the owners to pay homage to Edward Loysel de Santais, the first person who invented the first espresso machine.

Located across ICA at Lavender, in Kallang Riverside Park facing the Sungei Rochor & Sungei Kallang, this place allows Singaporean to get away from their metropolitan lifestyle to just come here and relax.

I have been to this place a few times, it is actually one of my favourite place to stop around Kallang area. Plenty of parking spots at the side of the road.

How is the coffee? Three main ingredients for a good cuppa: Excellent coffee bean (check, normally Terra Firma beans by Papa Palhetta); great machine (check, they are using Synesso coffee machine) and of course the barista.

Latte

The latte here is smooth, creamy with a cocoa taste, without the bitter and burn after taste. Quite frankly, I am not an expert in coffee or coffee beans. By my general rule of thumb is if I can drink my latte / cappuccino without sugar, the coffee is good. If I feel like I am going for second cup, then the coffee is great. If sugar is needed, then I perceived it as horrible and I won't come back for coffee any more. In conclusion, I think the coffee here is great.

Tea

To compliment our coffee, we ordered a earl grey cake. Although it look thick and huge, it is light and moist. The dark spots is actually the dust of earl grey tea, which give a nice twist of flavour to the cake. I am surprised that I actually like this cake, although I am not a fan of earl grey tea.

Earl Grey Cake

Service is minimum. You order and pay at the counter, and they will deliver your order. Water and other stuff is self service.

Overall, I really enjoy coming to this place for coffee. I never had a chance to stop by for breakfast, so can't really comment on the food except for the wonderful Earl Grey Cake. Cheers!!
