The Three Peacocks – Meat & Live Station Buffet [MEDIA INVITE]

The Three Peacocks (‘TTP’) are known to be a place to go for a great outdoor BBQ experience. They offer an extensive range of meat and seafood for BBQ and they are packed every day.

The Three Peacocks
Recently, TTP has launched Meat & Live Station Buffet, priced at $45++ for Monday to Friday. We last visited TTP a few years back, before Covid landed. When we visited them again this time around, we can see that TTP has expanded their offerings to include a few live stations and cooked food as well. They are becoming a full fledge buffet restaurant plus outdoor charcoal BBQ as well.

Meat & Live Stations Buffet

Back to the Meat BBQ, we started with the beef first. We have Bone In Short Rib Korean Cut, Angus Beef Boneless Short Rib, Wagyu Oyster Blade and Angus Beef Shortplate. We find the quality of the meat is good, almost Korean BBQ standard. The bone-in short rib is juicy with a good chewiness in it, but I like the boneless short ribs better as I do not have to get my hands dirty.

For the pork, we tried the Thick Cut Pork Belly, Black Pork Belly, Black Pork Collar, Pork Jowl and Pork Loin. We like both versions of the pork belly, as we grill them to the point of crispiness. The pork jowl has a nice fat-to-meat ratio; however, we find it too gamy for our liking.

Since the meat is not marinated, it is best to dip the cooked meat in different sauces provided to create the taste that you like.

Chilli Padi & Garlic, Chinchalok and Peacock Special Sauce
Salt, Korean BBQ and Yuzu & Ponzu
The skewers were highly recommended, so we grilled the Beef Skewers, Chicken Skewers, Marinated Mid Wing, Chicken Gizzard and Mutton Skewers. They are also known as Chuan Chuan in China. The beef, chicken and mutton skewers are good and you can add cumin powder seasoning to the skewers as well. I really like the gizzard as it was crisp and crunchy as well.

The Chuan Chuan
In between the meals I went to check out the live stations. The first live station that you will see when walking into TTP is the deep-fried and teppanyaki station. Here you can get a range of deep-fried food such as chicken karaage, fries, wedges, gyoza, calamari rings, nuggets and a lot more. The items will be rotated regularly.

Live Station Teppanyaki & Deep Fried
On that day, the teppanyaki station is busy with salmon, calamari rings and or-luak. On other occasions, they even do beef cubes, almost like the beef cubes popular in Taiwan street food. I get to try TTD version of or-luak which was very tasty, although it is lacking some crisp.

Or-luak

The next live station served pizza, pasta and burger. You won’t miss it as the big red pizza oven is so eye-catching, it should be a centrepiece. The pizza is baked on the spot, though I won’t say it is fantastic, it is decent. The slider (mini beef burger) is very good actually. Filled with juicy mini patty and pack with delicious sauce as well. On that day, they also serve carbonara, rojak and tacos.

Sliders / Mini Beef Burger
Since TTD is evolving to a full buffet lineup, they have beefed up the cooked ready food section as well. The cold food section includes a salad bar, cold cuts, sushi and soba. You can get the lettuce wrap from the salad bar and if you want something healthy, we find the apple salad is good to help balance the heavy meat BBQ.

The cooked food sections contain Soup, Garlic Bread, Fried Rice, Stir-fry Vegetables, Mac & Cheese, Baked Ratatouille, Potato Wedges, Corn with Cheese and Mala Xiang Guo. The Mala Xiang Guo seems to be popular with the guests, as the queue always peaked at the Mala Xiang Guo.

To complete the meal, drinks and ice cream are free flow. Drinks provided are more of a healthier choice, such as fruit punch, blackcurrant juice, orange juice and sky juice (water). There is no coke, coke zero or sprite. The chocolate and tropicana (corn and coconut) ice cream are great.

Overall, we find the offering at The Three Peacocks to be extensive. We find it impossible to try all the dishes and even go for a second round. For $45++ you will surely get your fill. If you still like your seafood, you can also continue with your all Seafood and Meat Buffet. Cheers!!

My Briyani House Marine Cove – Unveiling New Menu [MEDIA INVITE]

Lamb Shank Briyani

My Briyani House is an Indian Restaurant concept by Mr Teh Tarik Group. It serves a wide range of traditional and authentic Indian dishes as well as the iconic Teh Tarik. My Briyani House is also MUIS Halal Certified Restaurant.

My Briyani House @Marine Cove

My Briyani House at Marine Cove just revamps its menu and ready to tantalise our taste buds. The start dish for this new line menu is Lamb Shank Briyani ($13.80 for 1 pc, $25 for 2pcs).

The lamb shank is cooked over a long period as the flesh is almost fork-tender and easily fall off the bone. It is tasty and only has a little gamy taste. The briyani rice is fluffy, al-dente and flavourful. The spices are just right to ignite the aroma instead of overpowering the whole meal. The best part is to dig out for the lamb gravy at the bottom of the briyani rice.

Lamb Shank Briyani

Sambal Prawn ($8). Crispy and crunchy prawns. The sambal sauce has a multilayer and distinct spicy and sweetness. The sambal prawns are good with any type of rice, it can easily be a “rice thief” dish here.

Sambal Prawn

Masala Squid ($8). Aromatic and coated with creamy and delicious masala curry. The squid has a good bite to it, followed with a slight chewiness.

Masala Squid (Left) and Sambal Prawns

Chettinad Chicken ($8). This chicken dish sure packs of punch. The gravy is solid and absorbs well into the flesh. The chicken use is a bit too small for my liking, as the meat tasted a bit firm. The gravy from this chicken and masala squid goes nicely with the Butter Naan ($4).

Chettinad Chicken

The butter naan is aromatic and buttery. I like the chewy bread-like texture and the aromatic butter inside. Of course, it works wonder to polish the gravy from the Chettinad chicken and masala squid.

Butter Naan

Curry Fish Head ($28). The new signature dish here. The fish is fresh and cooked in spicy and tangy curry. There is no coconut milk inside this curry, so the curry fish head does not feel heavy. The curry spices stand out, together with a tangy and spicy flavour. In case you are wondering, the curry fish head is catered to Singaporean taste as the recipe was finetuned by Mr Mok, the owner of Mr Teh Tarik Group.

Curry Fish Head

Other than the briyani, we ate the fish head curry with the plain prata ($1.40, min 2 pcs). The plain prata is crisp and fully and if you let it swim in the curry fish head, it is a perfect vessel to savour the curry fish head.

Curry Fish Head

Vegetarian Briyani ($7.50). This vegetarian briyani is a medley of flavour and texture. The rice is fluffy and al-dente, accompanied by crunchy and juicy vegetables. The sweet flavour extracted from the vegetables together and spices just work wonder. As there is no meat in this briyani, this dish feels light and you won’t feel guilty when you scoop more of it.

Vegetarian Briyani

Side dishes that we tried include Papadum, Lady Finger Poriyal ($2) and Mixed Vegetable Thoran ($2). The mixed vegetable is sweet and crunchy. Combine with the attractive fresh colour, it is easily paired with white rice of briyani.

Mixed Vegetable Thoran and Papadum

I can’t comment much on the Lady Finger Poriyal, as I did not taste it. Lady finger just not of my liking. Papadum is crunchy with the right saltiness.

Our Meal, Lady Finger Poriyal at top roght

Of course, the meal here won’t be complete without the Signature Ice Teh Tarik ($2.50). Smooth milky texture followed with a strong tea flavour. Yummy!!

Signature Iced Teh Tarik

The décor of My Briyani House is simple, almost like a food court style. The place is very spacious and one of the attractions here is the kids’ corner. It is open 24 hours, so you can enjoy it any time of the day.

Overall, I like the new menu of My Briyani House. It combines the popular Authentic Indian dishes with local dishes as well. There have been improvements compare to the last time I was here for my prata fix. Do take note that this new menu is only applied to My Briyani House @Marine Cove. Cheers!!

TEN Sushi – Premium Sushi Experience [MEDIA INVITE]

Japanese Fresh Oysters - Sakoshi Bay Oysters @ Ten Sushi

TEN Sushi by Marusaya (“TEN Sushi”) is a casual Japanese dining concept by Marusaya Co., Ltd. Founded in 1962, Marusaya is a wholesaler dedicated to Katsuobushi (dried bonito) for professional use.

Ten Sushi

TEN Sushi focus on premium sushi and contemporary Japanese cuisine prepared with fine ingredients air-flown from Japan. Located in vibrant Robertson Quay where the experience continues past midnight. Ten Sushi open from 5PM till 3 AM. Sushi for supper, No Problem.

The Table Setting

We started our tasting with Japanese Fresh Oysters (Sakoshi Bay Oysters; $28 for 6 pieces, $49 for 12 pieces). This oyster is served chilled topped alternately with tobiko, grated radish soaked with soy sauce and chopped spring onion; or ikura, grated radish soaked in soy sauce and edible chrysanthemums petals. Lemon is served together with the oysters but I don’t think it is needed.

Japanese Fresh Oysters - Sakoshi Bay Oysters

The oysters are plump, creamy and meaty, while the garnish on top added the salty and brainy spark to the oysters. Yum, a good start to the meal and it is suitable with some cold sake.

Ten Assorted Sashimi Deluxe ($58). Consist of tuna, salmon, scallop, squid, sweet prawn, ikura and seasonal fish. One word to describe the sashimi is HUGE!!. The cut of each sashimi is generous and the tuna belly is fatty and delicious. LD like the uni and sweet prawns very much.

Ten Assorted Sashimi Deluxe

Ten Assorted Sashimi Deluxe

Unagi Eel Roll ($18 for 4 pieces, $32for 8 pieces). Another jumbo version of the roll that is not commonly found in Singapore. The unagi is moist with soft bouncy feel to it. The unagi sauce packs of umami flavour with a good balance of sweetness. I like the unique sushi rice, where they added chopped Gari (pickled sushi ginger) to balance any overwhelming flavours from the unagi. Yummy!!

Unagi Eel Roll

Tamagoyaki ($9). This homemade of Japanese rolled omelette is one of the better one that LD & I ever tried outside Japan. The shape is beautiful, while the egg flavour is solid, eggy plus a touch of sweetness. Worth to order on its own.

Tamagoyaki

A4 Wagyu Aburi Sushi. ($18 for 2 pieces, $44 for 5 pieces). Due to the tasting, we have the front seat of looking at how this sushi is prepared. True to its name, the wagyu beef has a nice marbling in it, covering the small sushi rice ball. A touch of sweet sauce and chopped spring onions are added to enhance the flavour of the wagyu. Let’s just say, one-piece won’t be enough. Yummy!!

A4 Wagyu Aburi Sushi - pre torched

A4 Wagyu Aburi Sushi

Aburi Salmon Avocado Roll ($20 for 8 pieces). Our first impression is this roll is very messy. However, the creamy avocado and aburi salmon work nicely in tandem. Topped with chopped onion, spring onions, teriyaki sauce, mayonnaise and tobiko, making it a mouth-watering sushi roll.

Omakase Sushi (12-piece sushi, roll sushi, $49). Signature sushi combination at Ten Sushi. Provided a good spread of 12 different types of premium sushi, seafood including uni, unagi, tuna belly, salmon belly, scallops and more; plus, roll sushi. Each of the sushi is delicious on its own, providing a good insight into the top-notch quality ingredients used by Ten Sushi. Presented in a slim long plank, it just gave added a WOW factor to the sushi. Two thumbs up.

Omakase Sushi

Sushi Box ($49 for 12 pieces, $98 for 24 pieces). Almost like Omakase sushi, but presented on a big square wooden plank. Good for sharing, but it does not have the same WOW factor as the Omakase Sushi.

Sushi Box - 24 pieces

Dashi Miso Soup ($4). To complete the sushi experience, miso soup is a must. The miso soup is made with the mixed of dashi sold by Marusaya group. The soup tastes more robust with an extra touch umami flavour in it. A perfect way to end the meal.

Dashi Miso Soup

The seating area in Ten Sushi is divided into Chef’s Table and alfresco. Most of the seating is alfresco as it has limited space on the Chef’s table. It utilises the big compound of The Quayside dining hall, making the dining experience more vibrant. The sake list is very compact; however, you can definitely find one that suits your preference.

The Quayside

Overall, Ten Sushi provided an exquisite contemporary Japanese sushi experience. The quality of the ingredients is top-notch and the portions are generous as well. The ambience is vibrant and casual plus you can have it until wee hours in the morning. For the next sushi experience, check out Ten Sushi. Kanpai!! Cheers!!

Thank you very much Jennifer Yeo Consultancy and Ten Sushi Team for hosting us.

Note: In addition to TEN Sushi, the Marusaya Co., Ltd also owns MAI by Dashi Master Marusaya at Bukit Pasoh, Dashi Master Marusaya at Robertson Quay and the new Japanese Italian Omakase restaurant, Monte Risaia.
