The team from TheFoodPan3 just dropped off their latest creations of savoury meat pies. They have created 2 new locally inspired flavours pies, Ayam Kari Kapitan [$8] and Chunky Beef Rendang [$9].
Delivery from TheFoodPan3
TheFoodPan3 is a home-based business that make its artisanal pies from scratch. The base of the pie is thick, buttery, yet you can taste the puffiness in the pastry. The pies are freshly baked and they try to time it as close as possible to the delivery or picked up time. Another thing that impresses me, is the size of their pies. They are HUGE!
The Pies
When I opened the top pastry of the Ayam Kari Kapitan pie, the ingredients filled the pie to the brim. The fillings consist of one-half of a hard-boiled egg, chunky carrots, potatoes and chicken pieces. All of the coated in curry and deliver spicy and rich flavour. I can taste the rich and robust flavour of the curry chicken, encased in the puffy, buttery pastry in every bite. The spiciness level is around 8/10. Yummy.
Ayam Kari Kapitan Pies
Moving to the Chunky Beef Rendang. Shape-wise, it is probably one of the closest-looking pies to the one I like to consume in Australia, but double in size. When I slice the pie, I can smell the aromatic rempah, herbs and spices coming out from the fillings. The beef is soft, fork tender, soaks up all the rempah, herbs and spices inside. Since it is a rendang, the fillings are a bit on the sweet side.
Chunky Beef Rendang
TheFoodPan3 team also send us the classic pies, Classic Chicken Pie [$7] and Red Wine Chunky Beef Pie [$9]. I reviewed them previously; however, it seems the taste of the classic pies have improved.
For the Classic Chicken Pie, the fillings consist of chicken, potatoes, carrots, peas, cooked in cream and one-half of a hard-boiled egg added during the pie-making process. The cream binds all the ingredients together, yet it is not heavy and allows the natural flavour of the ingredients to stand out. Definitely, one of the best chicken pies I ever tried in Singapore.
Classic Chicken Pie
The red wine chunky beef pies are the ones with dry chopped herbs on top. When I cut through the pies, the fillings did not flow out easily. It shows that they packed the fillings to the brim. The chunky beef cuts are lean, yet it is tender and well cooked. The gravy cooked with carrot and red wine, penetrated well into the inner part of the meat and at the same time extracted the beef essence into the delicious gravy.
Red Wine Chunky Beef Pie
CBK Verdict: I am impressed with the latest creation from TheFoodPan3. They have gone local with Ayam Kari Kapitan and Chunky Beef Rendang Pies, and they are pretty nice. If you like meat pies like I do, TheFoodPan3 artisanal meat pies are definitely a must-try. Cheers!!
Storage conditions: If you order the pies fresh, you can keep them refrigerated for 3 days. Or you can order the pies frozen, then you can keep them longer. Reheat instructions will be provided on the box as well.

Sodam Cookware Set + Glass Pot Lid 22cm
Recently, we received a Media Drop for Sodam Collection from Modori Team. Together with the Sodam Cookware Set (18cm Cooking Pot + 18cm Multi-Use Pot Lid + 22cm Cooking Pot + 24cm Frying Pan + Multifunction Handle), and we also receive Glass Pot Lid 22cm.
The plus points of Sodam Cookware Set:
1. Stackable, fitting neatly into any cramped cabinet, save space
2. 5 layers of advanced, Xtrema™ Non-Stick Ceramic Coating (The Xtrema™ Ceramic Coating provides advanced non-stick frying capabilities with high durability)
3. Lead-free, cadmium-free, PFOA, PFAS-free.
4. It can be used on all stove-tops: Induction cooker, gas stove, heating plate, oven and dishwasher (Note: It should not be used in the microwave)
Sodam Cookware
We give the Sodam Cookware a test run for our Sunday roast dinner. For the 24cm Frying Pan, we decided to do a roast pumpkin. Since the Multifunction Handle is removable, we just put the pan inside the oven. It saves us extra washing and an additional roasting tray. To add charred to the pumpkin, we torch the pumpkin inside the Sodam frying pan. The pumpkin turned out very well and there is no charred mark on the pan. The washing part is also seamless, as those sticky parts just come out easily using a soft sponge.

Next up is the 18cm Cooking Pot and Multi-use Pot Lid. LD and I decided to try Gyeranjjim (Korean Steam Egg). We just prep the ingredients, start the fire, put everything into the pot and just cover it. We manage to get the eggs to rise and the texture similar to those we get in the Korean restaurant, although not the shape. We’re very happy with the outcome and with a few more practice runs, we should be able to perfect it. When we finished the gyeranjjim, we notice no eggs sticking to the bottom of the pot comparing to the traditional claypot that used in the restaurants. Very pleased with the results and cleaning the pot was a breeze.
Sodam 18cm Cooking Pot
The Multifunction Handle is easy to use. I was able to master it in three tries. The best part is once you get it locked, the handle grip on to the frying pan or cooking pot firmly and not shaky at all, even when they are fully loaded.
Sodam 18cm Cooking Pot - Full Load
We also test it by reheating Lamb and Vegetable soup. The soup was cooked in a jiffy and there was almost no residue stuck on the pot. The 18cm cooking pot comes with a pouring spout, so you can pour the soup with no or minimum spillage. It also functions as a vent hole to prevent pressure from building up in the pot.

Once we are finished with the cooking and cleaning, the Sodam Cookware is easily stackable and easily stored. We tried a few different ways and this one seems to fit our style nicely.

Modori Cutting Board
Cutting Board is one of the most important items in the kitchen. However, it is also one of the tools that we need to keep checking or replacing most often, especially when it has a lot of cutting marks. Germs can easily get stuck in it and we need to ensure that there is no cross-contamination.
The team at Modori has created Modori Cutting Board made of TPU materials with high-quality flexibility and recovery power. It does not leave knife marks and scars easily and prevents the growth of harmful bacteria. You can easily sterilize it by pouring boiling water over it. (Suggest sanitizing within 10 seconds)
Modori Cutting Board Set
Modori Cutting Boards
We started using it a few weeks back. Till today, we still haven’t found knife/cutting marks on the cutting boards. Don’t forget to use separate cutting boards for fresh and raw ingredients, to avoid cross-contamination.
Modori Cutting Board - Cutting Vegetables
When I was cutting my roast lamb, I notice the meat did not slide around easily. The TPU materials provide good resistance and are less slippery compared to my other cutting boards.
Modori Cutting Board - No Knife Marks
Modori Cutting Board also comes with a metal stand. The colours of the cutting boards and the stand are very neutral, it easily blend into any colour or design of your kitchen. The stand will ensure there will be enough space between each cutting board and it will dry up properly.
Modori Cutting Boards with Stand
They have included the handmade ceramic magnet with this round and it can be used on the cutting board stand or your fridge doors to hold up any paper recipes.

My first taste of a meat pie was during high school in Melbourne, Australia. That beef minced meat and gravy fillings in between the shortcrust pastry and puff pastry on top was an eye-opener and it just hits my sweet spot. Meat pie is sold everywhere in Australia, they just put it in the brown bag, and you can eat it on the go. So, it was very easy to meet my cravings.
In Singapore, beef meat pie is not easy to find previously, however, it is getting more common nowadays. The most common meat pie you encounter here is chicken pie. The fillings consist of pieces of chicken, carrot, peas, cream and lots of pepper. For the crust, they usually use one type of pasty, which is filo pastry. Since filo pastry is soft and fluffy, it usually sits on aluminium foil tin pie pans and you can’t eat it with your hands.

My first impression of the pies, WOW, they are huge. One of the pies will be enough to fill me for a meal.

The pastry is crisp and fully on the top. However, the bottom part is soft as the gravy soaks into the pastry. However, it is one of the nicest meat pies that I ever tried in Singapore.

The chicken pie uses the same pastry as the beef pie. The fillings consist of chicken, potatoes, carrots, peas, cooked in cream and one-half of a hard-boiled egg added during the pie-making process. The cream binds all the ingredients together, yet it was not heavy and allows the natural flavour of the ingredient to stands out. When I cut through the pies, the fillings did not flow out, instead, it just sits on each half nicely. Definitely, one of the better chicken pies I ever tried in Singapore.
