[CLOSED] Kiyoshi – Bento & Yakitori Delivery [MEDIA DROP]

Unagi Bento

Kiyoshi means pure, clean and clean in Japanese. True to its name, Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant (‘Kiyoshi’) focus to provide light and wholesome meal for customers. Kiyoshi pride itself on fresh ingredients prepared using an innovative, contemporary approach.

Kiyoshi specialised in Inaniwa udon, a type of udon made in the Inaniwa area of Inakawa Machi, Akita prefecture. This cream colour udon is hand-stretched and is slightly thinner than regular udon, yet thicker than sōmen, or hiyamugi noodles. Other highlights of Kiyoshi include sashimi, donburi, ramen, yakitori and affordably priced bento sets. Not forgetting, Kiyoshi is also known as an Izakaya, a casual place for ‘after-work drinking’

During Phase 1, Kiyoshi remains open for Takeaway and Delivery.

I ordered Unagi Bento ($18.80). A nicely packed bento with a generous portion of unagi. The unagi is moist, tender and well marinated. The portion of pearly rice is very substantial and generously topped with furikake, creating a complex and unique flavour that matches the unagi.

Unagi Bento

On the sides, there is a crunchy and refreshing tomato salad and ohitashi (blanched spinach with dashi broth). The homemade Japanese pickle together with the tamago completes this wholesome and fulfilling meal.

Meanwhile, LD has the Yakiniku Bento ($19.80). Consist of sliced yakiniku pork belly served on top of the rice. The pork is tender, juicy and well marinated with yakiniku sauce.

Yakiniku Bento

On the sides were tomato salad, grilled salmon yakitori, homemade pickle and sliced oranges. The salmon teriyaki has a slight caramelised texture externally, followed with moist and flaky flesh. The teriyaki sauce is very sweet, so you will need to eat it with the rice to balance it. The acidity from tomato salad and homemade pickle helps to offset the sweetness of the teriyaki and unagi sauce.

Yakiniku - Pork

Salmon Teriyaki

From the yakitori section, we ordered -Gyu Karubi ($5.80), Ebi Mentaiyaki ($4.00), Yakitori (chicken $2.00) and Kawa (chicken skin - $2.00). I usually won’t takeaway for yakitori, however, this is not a “normal” period. The yakitori chicken and chicken skin are definitely a must-order. When I sink my teeth into both, I can taste the smoky charcoal aroma. The chicken meat is juicy and succulent, while the chicken skin is crisp with a healthy springiness to it.

Yakitori

The prawn is huge. It has been deshelled, grilled and topped with metaiko sauce. The best of the yakitori item is the beef, Gyu Karubi. Juicy, succulent and perfectly grilled. I think I can easily go through half of dozen stick of this Gyu Karubi in one seating. #Beefgasm

Yakitori

Overall, it was a delicious and enjoyable meal from Kiyoshi. I look forward to visit them when they are open for Dine-In.

Famous Treasure – Island Wide Delivery [MEDIA DROP]

Wok-Fried Sri Lanka Crab with Black Pepper
Famous Treasure is a modern Chinese restaurant serving Nanyang Cuisine. Located in Capitol Piazza, Famous Treasure are known to serve nostalgic and bold flavours familiar to Singapore palate. The restaurant has been honoured by The World of Fine Wine for having 2-star wine list in 2019, for having an extensive range of rare and boutique wines and whiskeys to complement the dining experience here.

We have dined in Famous Treasure several times, you can check out the full review here. This is the first time that we tried Famous Treasure (‘FT’) Island-Wide delivery.

Our Meal

We ordered Roasted Irish "Silver Hill" Duck ($40 for half / $78 for whole). We love the roast duck here as it gives your juicy, succulent and melts in your mouth feeling. The whole duck is chopped and divided into 2 containers. The presentation of the duck is the same as it is served in the restaurant.

Roasted Irish "Silver Hill" Duck

Due to its high-fat content, Roasted Irish Duck is it is best eaten hot / warm. Once it becomes cold, the fats become coagulated taste very oily. When you consume this at home, it is best to slightly reheat it in a microwave or oven to render the fats.

Roasted Irish "Silver Hill" Duck - Half

Deep-Fried Pork Belly with Fermented Beancurd ($20 / $30 / $40). Another favourite dish that we like to order in FT. The pork belly is marinated with fermented beancurd and deep-fried. The pungent aroma of the fermented beancurd will entice your palate before you bit into the pork belly. The exterior is crispy, while the interior is fat, juicy and succulent. It is served with green colour sauce, made from chilli padi, green chilli and other secret ingredients. The garlic gave a touch of sweetness in this dish.

Deep-Fried Pork Belly with Fermented Beancurd

Braised Hakka Beancurd ($16 / $24 / $32). FT version of famous HK Yong Tofu. The beancurd is stuffed with minced pork and deep-fried. It is then braised in brown sauce together with ladyfingers. The beancurd is firm and hold the tasty minced pork well. The brown sauce is a combination of savoury and sweet, goes well with white rice. An enjoyable dish.

Braised Hakka Beancurd

KL Style Hokkien Mee ($20 onwards). A good rendition of KL Style Hokkien Mee. The thick noodle is bouncy with a nice bite to it. The flavours of the fried prawns, pork oil, pork lard and premium dark soy sauce generate the mixture of sweet, savoury and OMPH flavour in this dish.

KL Style Hokkien Mee

Wok-Fried Sri Lanka Crab with Black Pepper ($108 onwards). First time trying the black pepper crab here and we were pretty impressed. The Sri Lanka Crab that we received is solid, fresh and has a sweet flesh. The black pepper has the perfect kick that will tantalise your taste bud. Yum Yum.

Wok-Fried Sri Lanka Crab with Black Pepper

Overall, it was indeed a satisfying meal from Famous Treasure.

The Peranakan – High Tea at Home [MEDIA DROP]

The Peranakan Kueh and Bubble Tea

The Peranakan has launched the Home Delivery for Peranakan Kueh and Bubble Tea. The idea behind this home delivery is to show Your Love to the people that you care with Peranakan Kueh #Sendlove

The menu includes:
- Penang Lapis
- Pulut Seri Kaya
- Kueh Bingka
- Kueh Lapis (Pandan Flavour)
- Kueh Wajik
- Pulut Sekaya Labu (Pumpkin)
- Kueh Sago Lapis
- Apom Bokwa with Pisang Pengat
- Durian Pengat x 2
- Malacca Bubble Tea x 2
*The kueh might vary subject to availability.

The Peranakan Kueh and Bubble Tea

The Peranakan kuehs are delicately crafted and full of flavours, tasted wickedly good. We share these delicious kuehs with our family members and everyone gives a thumbs up, especially LD who truly loves her Nonya kuehs.

Kueh Bingka, Pulut Seri Kaya, Pulut Seri Kaya, Penang Lapis and Kueh Lapis are our favorites. The kuehs are generally not too sweet, they are full pack of coconut flavours. Kueh Bingka gives a strong cassava taste, while Penang Lapis so packs of coconut unlike the ones selling out there where you can only taste the colour flavorings.

The Peranakan Kueh

The kaya on Pulut Seri Kaya are so rich and strong, it is well-balanced with the glutinous rice. For the Pulut Sekaya Labu, it is our first time tasting pumpkin kuehs, it is amazingly full pack of coconut milk with a hint of pumpkin. Yummy! Definitely, not your wet market “pasar” standard.

I also tasted the pillowy Apom Bakwa with Pisang Pengat and Durian Pengat as the dips. My preference is, of course, the durian pengat dip.

Apom Bokwa, Pisang Pengat, and Durian Pengat

The Malacca Bubble Tea drew inspiration from Malacca Milk Tea served at the restaurant. The milk tea is aromatic, the bubbles are bouncy and keep a lookout for grass jelly hidden in between. The sugar is minimal compare to the bubble tea outside. However, this bubble tea still can’t beat the hot Malacca Milk Tea served at The Peranakan.

Overall, it was a satisfying tea break for us and it is a good portion to #Sendlove to your loved ones.

Famous Kitchen – Islandwide Delivery Menu [MEDIA DROP]

Our Food
The Famous Kitchen (“TFK”) is a casual family-style restaurant located in Sembawang. It specialises in Nanyang Cuisine and Seafood offerings, based on Teochew, Hokkien and Cantonese culture assimilated into Southeast Asia. You can also find other dishes inspired by owner Jeffery Foo’s travel around China. As Singaporeans are well-travelled, our palate will be acceptable to different types of cuisine. Famous Kitchen is recommended by the 2019 edition MICHELIN Guide Singapore.

Our Food with Traditional Curry Fish Head

TFK has recently expanded its delivery service to Island Wide. We were invited to try out the Delivery Menu.

Crabmeat with Fish Maw Soup ($12 per portion). The broth is thick, robust with a hint of sweetness from the crab meat. The soup is generously filled with fish maw, crab meat, sliced mushroom and drizzle with egg. Each portion can easily share by 2 persons.

Crabmeat with Fish Maw Soup

Braised Pork Ribs with Lemongrass Plum ($16 / $24 / $32). Juicy and succulent pork ribs well coated with lemongrass plum sauce. The combination of sweet, sour and the lemongrass fragrant aroma is certainly appetizing. I like the watermelon ball as it acts as palate cleanser. Watch out for plum as the cooking seems to intensify the twang in the plum.

Braised Pork Ribs with Lemongrass Plum

Braised Pork Ribs with Lemongrass Plum

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn with Italian Sauce ($27 for 300g / $36 for 400g / $45 for 500g). The prawns are deshelled until the tail, deep-fried and coated with salted egg yolk. The sauce is creamy with a zesty and tangy flavour. We are slightly disappointed with the prawns, as it feels a bit rubbery. I think for delivery, it will be better if they did not deshell the prawns and tossed the deep-fried prawns with the Italian Sauce.

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn with Italian Sauce

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn with Italian Sauce

Mixed "Bailing" Mushroom with "Kai Lan" ($12 / $18 / $24). The mushroom is quite Q, yet delicious. Once the mushroom is stir-fried, it exudes silky and creamy juice to accompanied the crunchy and slightly bitter taste kai lan.

Mixed "Bailing" Mushroom with "Kai Lan"

Signature Yellow Chives Char Kway Teow ($12 / $18 / $24). This plain-looking char kway teow packs punch. The rice noodle is smooth and silky, as it absorbs the wok-hei. dark soy sauce and sweetness from chives. Yummy!!

Signature Yellow Chives Char Kway Teow

We also take this opportunity to order extra Traditional Curry Fish Head ($28 for half, $50 for whole). A perennial favourite dish in the Nanyang area. The fish head is extremely huge. The curry is closer to the Nyonya version. The curry is rich, creamy and packs with “lemak” that absorbs nicely into the fresh fishhead. The lady’s finger, tomato, eggplant and tau pork (dried bean curd puff) round up this “rice thief” dish nicely.

Traditional Curry Fish Head

We were only able to finished half of the curry fish head and we use it the next morning to eat it with prata. The secret of the best curry is to eat it the next day as the taste has intensified. A perfect companion for rice or prata.

Traditional Curry Fish Head

On a side note, TFK certainly packs the food properly. Each container is wrapped with cling wrap to prevent any spillage and keep the food warm, plus labelled with consumption time as well. They have certainly put in extra effort to ensure giving their customers quality food even though it is a delivery.

Goldleaf Restaurant – Goldleaf Classic Delivery [MEDIA DROP]

Goldleaf Classic Menu

Goldleaf Restaurant (‘Goldleaf’), 49 years old-school, family-style Chinese cuisine is ready to deliver their comforting food to your dining room.

We received our delivery of their Goldleaf Classic Menu ($88). To my surprise, the food still lukewarm when it arrived at our place.

Steamed Seabass in Light Sauce. A very good size of seabass, steamed to perfection. The flesh is silky, smooth and flaky. The robust light sauce is a combination of sweet and savoury flavour, sips nicely into the flesh of the fish and accentuate the taste of the fish. Yummy!!

Steamed Seabass in Light Sauce

Japanese Cold Beancurd with Pork Floss. Each ingredient of this cold dish is packed separately. This extra care allows us to enjoy the tofu almost like the condition served in the restaurant. The combination of the thick sauce and pork floss is just delicious.

Japanese Cold Beancurd with Pork Floss

Flower Clam with Ginger & Scallions. It is fresh and tasty, like those you eat in Taiwan. The combination of ginger, onion and jus from the clams is very appetizing. I like it as there is no cut chilli padi in it, though LD disagree with me on this. She like her clam to be spicy.

Flower Clam with Ginger & Scallions

Stir-fried Taiwanese Lettuce. Crunchy, sweet with a touch of bitterness.

Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetable. The pork belly has the right proportion of fats in it. The marinate absorbs into the meat and the mei cai (preserved vegetable). The pork belly is succulent, yet it still has a good bite to it. Even the lean mean on the bellow is easy to eat. The seasoning is more of the savoury side. The mei cai is plated at the back to prop up the pork belly. Best eaten with white rice and plain porridge.

Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetable

Chye Por Omelette. We kept this for supper. This is one of the Signature dishes in Goldleaf. The chye por fillings are generous and the egg remains fluffy even though we kept it for a while. I think the hole created in the packaging prevent it from getting soggy.

Chye Por Omelette - Top Right

Steamed Pork Patty with Salted Egg. I find this is one of the most underrated dishes, yet one of the most comforting dishes. The pork patty is juicy, succulent and bursting with OINK OINK flavour. I found the saltiness on the salted egg is on the mild side, yet it was offset with the robust flavour in the pork patty. Don’t forget to add the jus on your rice or porridge, as it contains the essence of the pork.

Steamed Pork Patty with Salted Egg

Sweet Potato Porridge x4. The porridge is thick, almost to like congee style. It is very comforting and we enjoyed it for supper.

Sweet Potato Porridge

Overall, Goldleaf Classic set menu offers a generous serving of delicious dishes by Goldleaf. It can easily feed 6 pax instead of 4.

Thank you very much Karen from Goldleaf and Kris for arranging the delivery.
