[CLOSED] Criollo Cocoa Cafe – Premium Hot Chocolate [MEDIA INVITE]

Chocolate Waffle
Thank you very much to Hungry Go Where and Criollo Cocoa Cafe team for the invitation.

Criollo Cocoa Cafe ('CCC') is a new player in the F&B in Singapore. The name of the cafe originated from Criollo Cocoa Bean, which is a top grade of Cocoa Beans with its distinctive reddish colour and equally complex flavours. Based on the name itself, you should get a hint on what is the top of the must-try list in this cafe.

Located in one corner the newly opened Ochard Gateway, the location can be slightly obscure.

Drinks Menu

Gaggia - One of the most popular Italian Made Coffee Machine

As the café named after a cocoa bean, the signature dish and drink made from chocolate. The Dark Hot Chocolate ($6.50) is a must try. It tasted thick, rich and creamy chocolate flavour. Well balance in term of sweetness, however the latte art is just cute and refreshing. For the cold version, tried their Frozen Hot Chocolate ($8.90)

To accompany the hot chocolate, Chocolate Waffle ($14.90) will be a good option. It is freshly baked topped with a scoop ice cream, drizzled with dark and white chocolate sauce. All the ingredients fall into place and it is a true treat for chocolate lovers. I also tried Waffle with fresh fruit ($14.90). The waffles are soggy in the middle due to liquid from the fruits place in between the waffles. I find that the maple syrup is just insufficient. Really different compare to the Chocolate Waffle.

During this tasting session, we also had the opportunity to taste the other savoury dishes such as their Tortilla with Grilled Chicken ($8.90). A good appetiser, the grilled chicken is tender and succulent, with a good taste of toasted cheese. Watch out for the chilli flakes, as it will give you some explosion in your mouth.

For Aglio Olio ($15.90 each), we tried the smoked duck version and seafood version. The pasta is cooked to al-dente. The smoked duck version will give you a more bold and salty flavour, while the seafood is slightly lighter flavour and relied on the ingredients to speak for itself.

Spaghetti Bolognaise ($14.90) is one of the house specialities. To intensify the flavour, CCC bake their bolognaise, so as to give a different texture to the pasta. A good comfort food with a sweeter version of the bolognaise sauce.

From the meat lovers selection, I sampled Grilled Chicken Chop ($15.90) and Mixed Grilled Platter ($19.90). The mixed grilled consist of grilled chicken, bacon, chorizo sausage, served with fries and salsa sauce. The grilled chicken and bacon is tender and succulent, while the bacon is on the salty side, but a good companion for the beer. Chorizo sausage is slightly spicy, with compact texture. Both grilled item are served with a very flavourful truffle fries.

If you are not a meaty person, give the Fish and Chips ($15.90) a try. The batter of the fish is thin, crisp and no hint of any fishy taste. Although it is served with truffle fries and salad, the portion is slightly small.

Overall, Criollo Cocoa Cafe provide a good Chocolate experience. The main stars are definitely everything with chocolate. The rest of supporting cast are decent, however none of the other meal really give you the WOW factors like the chocolate. So if Chocolate is your favourite food or drink, give this place a try. Cheers!!
